KARACHI, Pakistan (AA) - Pakistan's army chief Gen. Asim Munir and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed regional security and an ongoing counter-terrorism cooperation between the two sides at the Munich Security Conference in Germany, the military said on Sunday.
Munir visited Germany on Feb. 12-14 to attend meetings on the sidelines of the conference, a statement from the army's media wing said.
He discussed with Rubio matters of mutual interest, including global and regional security dynamics and counterterrorism cooperation, the statement added.
As part of his interactions with the German authorities, Munir met with Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt, Foreign Policy and Security Policy Advisor to the German chancellor, Gunter Sautter, and Chief of Defense Gen. Carsten Breuer.
The meetings focused on contemporary security issues, bilateral defense cooperation, and the need to promote global peace and security through bilateral and multilateral dialogue.
Munir also held engagements with Adm. Renato Rodrigues de Aguiar Freire, chief of the Joint Staff of the Brazilian Armed Forces, and Gen. Rodolph Haykal, the commander of the Lebanese Armed Forces.
During the interactions, the global and regional security situation and measures to enhance bilateral defense collaboration were discussed.
