WASHINGTON (AA) - US Congresswoman Julia Brownley announced Thursday that she will not seek reelection in 2026, bringing to a close her tenure representing Ventura County and the Conejo Valley in Congress.

In a statement, the Democrat from California called her time in office “the honor of my lifetime."

With more than a year remaining in her current term, Brownley said she will continue working to deliver results for her district and advance legislation that improves lives locally and nationally.

"While I will not be in Congress, I will remain in the fight, fighting for a better and brighter future," she added.

Brownley was first elected to the lower chamber in 2012 to serve California’s 26th district.

Earlier Thursday, Rep. Steny Hoyer, 86, also a Democrat, announced that he will not to seek another term after a 45-year career in the lower chamber.
