WASHINGTON (AA) - A total of seven Iranian and Indian mariners were rescued on a sinking commercial Iranian vessel in the Arabian Gulf, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Tuesday.
"Great work today by personnel aboard the U.S. Navy ship USS DEVASTATOR (MCM 6) and U.S. Coast Guard Cutter (USCGC) CLARENCE SUTPHIN JR (WPC 1147) in the Arabian Gulf," CENTCOM said on X.
They rescued seven mariners in distress who abandoned their vessel, M/V SHAYESTEH, which is an Iranian vessel and was flying a Qatari flag.
"The vessel had a significant list and issued a mayday call for help. The M/V SHAYESTEH has since sunk," it said, adding five Iranian and two Indian mariners are receiving follow-up on medical care.
