US: Sean Spicer resigns as White House spokesman

Resignation comes immediately after Trump names new communications director

By Safvan Allahverdi

WASHINGTON (AA) - White House spokesman Sean Spicer abruptly resigned Friday after objecting to the appointment of a new communications director, according to the media reports.

Spicer allegedly told President Donald Trump he disagreed with the appointment of the New York financier Anthony Scaramucci to the post.

Scaramucci, who was chosen early Friday, is a major Republican donor and was a member of the president's transition team.

Scaramucci replaces Mike Dubke, who resigned in May, just three months after being hired by Trump.
