WASHINGTON (AA) - The US Senate approved the nomination of Sean Duffy to lead the Transportation Department on Tuesday.

President Donald Trump's pick was confirmed in a 77-22 vote.

During his confirmation hearing on Jan. 15, Duffy, 53, said he would work to reduce the red tape and prioritize road safety.

He said America needs more air traffic controllers.

"I will work with Congress and the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) to restore global confidence in Boeing and to ensure our skies are safe," he added.

Duffy is the sixth nominee to be Senate-approved following Secretary of State Marco Rubio, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
