WASHINGTON (AA) - Democratic Senator John Fetterman has checked himself in at a hospital to get treatment for "clinical depression," his office said Thursday.
The senator from the state of Pennsylvania checked himself into Walter Reed National Military Medical Center late Tuesday, according to his chief of staff, Adam Jentleson.
"While John has experienced depression off and on throughout his life, it only became severe in recent weeks," Jentleson said in a statement.
Fetterman was evaluated by Dr. Brian Monahan, the attending physician for Congress on Monday.
"Yesterday, Dr. Monahan recommended inpatient care at Walter Reed. John agreed, and he is receiving treatment on a voluntary basis,” he said.
"John is getting the care he needs, and will soon be back to himself," said doctors at Walter Reed, according to Jentleson.
