ISTANBUL (AA) - US President Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff arrived in Moscow on Wednesday to discuss the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, Russian RT channel reported.
He arrived at Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport, where he was welcomed by Russian presidential investment envoy and Russian Direct Investment Fund head Kirill Dmitriev, before the two took a walk in Zaryadye Park near the Kremlin.
Earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said a face-to-face meeting between Witkoff and Russian President Vladimir Putin remains a possibility.
Witkoff's visit comes as Trump threatens sweeping new sanctions on Russia, including 100% tariffs and secondary measures against its trade partners, if tangible progress is not made toward resolving the conflict.
It also comes just days ahead of an Aug. 8 deadline set by Trump for Russia to agree to a ceasefire deal with Ukraine.
