US steel mills shipped 7.15 million net tons in December, a slight annual rise of 0.9%, the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) said late Wednesday.
The figure also posted a notable 6.6% month-over-month rise from November 2024 shipments, which totaled 6.7 million net tons.
Despite the positive momentum in December, total shipments for 2024 reached 86.13 million net tons, a 3.6% decline from the 89.334 million net tons shipped in 2023.
Cold-rolled sheet shipments rose 3% last year, corrosion-resistant sheet shipments remained flat, and hot-rolled sheet shipments fell 7%.
