US stock market opens higher

Twitter shares rise 14.5 percent

NEW YORK (AA) - The U.S. stock market opened higher Thursday with American companies' positive third quarter financial results.

The Dow jumped 110 points to begin trading at 23,439 points, and the S&P 500 rose 6 points to 2,563 points.

The Nasdaq increased 2 points to start the day at 6,566 points.

U.S. firms Ford and Twitter saw rise in their stock prices after their third quarter financial results beat market expectations.

At the first bell, Ford shares gained 1 percent, while Twitter shares soared 14.5 percent.

The social media company said in a statement that it had added 4 million new monthly users during the July-September period this year.
