ISTANBUL (AA) - The New York Stock Exchange completed the last trading day of the week in positive territory.

The Nasdaq index, which saw all-time highs during the day, saw closing records in December last year and the S&P 500 index in February.

The Dow rose 1%, or 432.43 points, to close at 43,819.27.

The Nasdaq Composite inched up 0.52%, or 105.55 points, to 20,273.46 – a new high, and the S&P 500 rose by 0.52%, or 32.05 points, to 6,173.07 – also a record.

The VIX Index, also known as the “fear index," fell 1.63% to 16.32.

Although US President Donald Trump's announcement that Washington ended trade talks with Canada weakened optimism about tariff agreements, a positive course was observed in equity markets.

Trump said he ended trade talks with Canada because of a digital service tax on US technology companies that Ottawa introduced, and Washington will notify Canada of the tariff rate it will have to pay within a week.

He said his administration signed a trade agreement with China on Thursday and other agreements are on the way.

A EU spokesman said the bloc is confident it will reach a tariff agreement with the US by the July 9 deadline. Trump also wants to reach agreements with key trade partners in Asia in the coming weeks.
