US stocks open mixed, Nasdaq in negative territory

Tech-heavy index falls 25 points, or 0.22%

ISTANBUL (AA) - Major exchanges in the US stock market opened mixed Tuesday.

The Dow Jones rose 44 points, or 0.13%, to 33,631 at 10 a.m. EDT (1400GMT). The S&P 500 added just one point, or 0.02%, to open flat at 4,110.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq, on the other hand, fell 25 points, or 0.22%, to 12,058.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, rose 0.1% to 19.00. Meanwhile, the 10-year US Treasury yield rose 0.5% to 3.431%.

The dollar index was unchanged at 102.08, while the euro gained 0.6% to $1.0927 against the greenback.

Precious metals were in positive territory, with gold rising 0.6% to $2,002 per ounce and silver adding 0.7% to $20.05.

Oil prices increased by around 0.6%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $84.60 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude at $80.41.
