WASHINGTON (AA) - US President Joe Biden said Saturday that Washington will send 5,000 troops to Afghanistan's capital to evacuate embassy staff.
Biden said in a written statement that the troops will respond quickly and forcefully to any possible Taliban attacks.
He stated that he increased the number of soldiers to be sent which was previously announced as 3,000, for the evacuation of the staff at the American Embassy in Kabul and Afghans who supported the US.
Biden noted that the aim is the safe and speedy removal of personnel in the country.
