ISTANBUL (AA) - The US Treasury Department on Monday lowered its borrowing forecast for the fourth quarter of this year to $569 billion.
The department said in a statement that the cash balance at the end of December was expected to be $850 billion.
"The borrowing estimate is $21 billion lower than announced in July 2025, primarily due to the higher beginning-of-quarter cash balance, partially offset by lower projected net cash flows," the department said in a statement.
It noted that the current quarter borrowing estimate is $20 billion higher than announced in July, excluding the higher-than-assumed beginning-of-quarter cash balance.
The Treasury stated that it borrowed $1.058 trillion during the July-September period, with a cash balance of $891 billion at the end of that quarter.
In its July forecast, the department announced that the Treasury was expected to borrow $1.007 trillion in the third quarter of the year, with a projected cash balance of $850 billion at the end of September.
