ISTANBUL (AA) - The US unemployment rate was at 4.4% in September, up from 4.3% monthly, above expectations of 4.3%, according to figures Thursday.
The number of unemployed people rose by 119,000 month-on-month in September, the Bureau of Labor Statistics stated.
"Job losses occurred in transportation and warehousing and in the federal government," it said.
In addition, the number of initial jobless claims was at 220,000 the week ending Nov. 15, down 8,000 from the previous week.
The four-week moving average was 224,250, falling 3,000 from the previous week's average.
The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending Nov. 8 was 1.97 million, up 28,000.
