Wall Street closes mixed with tech gains, weak data

Dow's ends 7-day win streak

NEW YORK (AA) - Wall Street closed mixed Wednesday with a rise in tech shares and disappointing economic data.

The Dow fell 54 points to close at 18,868 -- ending seven consecutive days of gains. The S&P fell three points to finish at 2,176.

The Nasdaq, on the other hand, added 18 points to end at 5,294, thanks to gains in tech companies stocks.

Nvidia, a major producer of graphics processing units, saw its stock price rise 6.3 percent. Apple and Microsoft saw their shares increase 2.6 percent and 1.3 percent, respectively.

The Producer Price Index (PPI), which measures the change in the price of goods sold by manufacturers and is important for overall inflation, remained unchanged in October, the Labor Department announced earlier. The market expectation was a 0.3 percent monthly increase.

Industrial production also remained unchanged as analysts expected a 0.2 percent rise.
