ISTANBUL (AA) - A serious security vulnerability in WhatsApp has been identified to allow spyware to automatically infiltrate users’ devices, the Russian Interior Ministry warned Friday.
The ministry’s department for combating cybercrime said the issue enables malicious software to enter users’ devices without any action on their part, Russian state-run RIA News reported.
Authorities found that the spyware, known as Graphite, was spreading through infected PDF files sent in group chats.
The malware could be installed automatically, even if users did not open the file or click on links, officials said.
The Interior Ministry urged WhatsApp users to take precautions and remain vigilant against potential cyber threats.
