WASHINGTON (AA) - Three Americans have been released from detention in China, White House said Wednesday.
"We are pleased to announce the release of Mark Swidan, Kai Li, and John Leung from detention in the People’s Republic of China," a National Security Council spokesperson said.
The spokesperson said they will return and be reunited with their families soon for the first time in many years.
"Thanks to this Administration’s efforts and diplomacy with the PRC, all of the wrongfully detained Americans in the (People's Republican of China) PRC are home," the spokesperson added.
Earlier, Politico news website reported that the Biden administration has brokered the release of three Americans by trading them for unidentified Chinese citizens in US custody, citing a White House official.
