WHS is chance to fulfill people's needs: UN official

According to UN data, 130 million people around the world need humanitarian aid, says UN Under-Secretary-General O’Brien

ISTANBUL (AA) - UN Under-Secretary-General and Emergency Relief Coordinator Stephen O’Brien said Sunday that the World Humanitarian Summit was a chance to fulfill people's needs.

In a press conference ahead of the upcoming first-ever World Humanitarian Summit, which is to take place in Istanbul on Monday and Tuesday, O’Brien said that, according to UN data, 130 million people needed humanitarian aid in the world.

O'Brien added that $25-30 billion were needed to provide humanitarian worldwide.

During the World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul, attended by 125 of the UN’s 193 member states, at least 50 heads of government are expected to announce several commitments regarding humanitarian issues .
