ADEN, Yemen (AA) - Police in Yemen’s city of Aden on Tuesday arrested a senior member of the Daesh terrorist group believed to have been responsible for recruiting suicide bombers, according to a statement released by Yemen’s counter-terrorism agency.

"The suspect had been recruiting young people from local mosques and through social media," the statement read.

The suspect, whose full name was not given, was arrested within the context of operations conducted under the supervision of a Saudi-led anti-Daesh coalition.

"The suspect confessed to recruiting 25 people for Daesh, including five suicide bombers who have since carried out suicide attacks in Aden," the police statement read.

It added: "The remaining 20 [would-be suicide bombers] are still in Aden."

Yemen’s coastal Aden province, which currently serves as the government’s provisional headquarters, has recently seen a spate of suicide attacks on Yemeni security forces.
