MOSCOW (AA) - Russia and Ukraine accused each other of shelling the city center of Kherson, which left several people dead and dozens injured.
The total number of people, killed and injured in the shelling differs as Kyrylo Tymoshenko, head of Ukraine's presidential administration, said five people were killed and 35 others injured while the Russian media claim seven people were killed and 53 others injured.
Posting photos on Telegram of burning cars and injured people lying on the road, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said: "Kherson. In the morning, on Saturday, on the eve of Christmas, in the central part of the city. These are not military facilities."
According to Russia’s state-run media, what happened in Kherson is “another provocation by the armed forces of Ukraine” aimed at blaming Moscow and getting more military support from the West.
Meanwhile, locals posted photos on Telegram of parts of the US HIMARS rockets, which they say, were from the territory under Ukraine's control.
Since the beginning of November, Kherson has been under the control of the armed forces of Ukraine. The city undergoes curfew from 7:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. local time.
