ISTANBUL (AA) – Several people were injured on Tuesday when a train was derailed after suspected militants detonated an improvised explosive device on the track in southwestern Pakistan, police said.
Three cars of the Jaffar Express were derailed in Mastung’s Dasht area of Balochistan province after an explosion on the railway track.
At least three people were injured, said police.
According to railway officials, one carriage overturned, while two others deviated from the track. The train was traveling from Peshawar to Quetta when the incident occurred.
Ambulances were dispatched from Quetta to transport the injured to hospitals, Geo TV reported.
Earlier in March, militants seized the Jaffar Express train from Quetta to Peshawar, killing 31 civilians and security personnel. More than 300 passengers were held hostage and later rescued following the military operation.
While there was no immediate reaction from officials, no militant group claimed responsibility for the attack when the last reports came in.
