ISTANBUL (AA) - Severe weather hit air traffic in southern South Korea on Friday.

More than 225 flights were canceled at Jeju International Airport in southern Jeju Island due to heavy snow and strong winds, Yonhap News reported.

The mass flight cancelation left some 15,000 travelers stranded on the island due to flight disruptions.

Reports of flight cancelations from other regional airports were also received.

South Korea has received heavy snowfall since last month, resulting in disruptions to communications in many parts of the country.

Separately, South Korean police raided Gimhae International Airport in southeastern Busan city as part of investigations into a fire incident involving an Air Busan plane.

The plane had caught fire on Jan. 28 before it was about to take off from the airport in Busan, about 320 kilometers (198 miles) from the capital, Seoul.
