Soldier martyred in southeastern Turkey

KAHRAMANMARAS, Turkey (AA) - A soldier was martyred and two other security personnel have been injured in a clash with PKK terrorist group in southeastern Kahramanmaras province, according to Justice and Development (AK) Party spokesman on Wednesday.

"We are deeply saddened by the news we have just received. According to initial reports, a sergeant was martyred in a clash in Engizekler area of Kaziktepe region in Caglayancirit district," Mahir Unal said during a meeting with AK Party members.

Unal added another soldier and a village guard were injured during the same clash.

Operations against the PKK terrorist group remain ongoing in the region.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK has taken some 40,000 lives, including many women and children.
