DIYARBAKIR, Turkey (AA) - A soldier was martyred during an anti-PKK operation in southeastern Diyarbakir province on Monday, according to a military source.
The soldier had succumbed to his wounds at the Selahattin Eyyubi State Hospital, the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media, said.
Another soldier is being treated in the hospital, the source added.
The soldiers were conducting an ongoing counter terrorism operation in rural areas of Diyarbakir’s Lice district.
An operation has been launched to capture the terrorists.
More than 1,200 people, including security force personnel and civilians -- many of them women and children -- have lost their lives since the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and EU -- resumed its decades-old armed campaign in July 2015.
