ISTANBUL (AA) – South Korea on Wednesday urged Israel and Iran to “faithfully” implement a ceasefire agreement announced by US President Donald Trump, according to Seoul-based Yonhap News.
"We hope that all parties will faithfully implement the terms of the agreement so that tensions in the region can be eased swiftly," South Korea’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The statement added that Seoul, as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, "will continue to participate in the international community's efforts to promote peace and stability in the Middle East."
Israel launched airstrikes on several sites across Iran on June 13, including military and nuclear facilities, alleging that Tehran was on the verge of producing a nuclear bomb, a claim vehemently denied by Iran.
While Iran launched retaliatory missile and drone strikes, the US joined the conflict by bombing three Iranian nuclear sites on Sunday.
After 12 days of aerial combat between the two regional arch-foes, US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire between Israel and Iran to end their conflict.
