ISTANBUL (AA) - South Korean investigators have issued a new summons to suspended President Yoon Suk Yeol for questioning about the failed martial law decree earlier this month, Seoul-based Yonhap News reported.

Yoon has already defied three summonses, including from the prosecutor’s office, a joint team of the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO), police and the Defense Ministry.

The anti-corruption body issued the third summons Thursday and asked Yoon to appear for questioning on Sunday.

Prosecutors have joined the CIO-led team in a probe against Yoon and his aides, who face treason and insurrection charges after the president, shocked the nation when he decided to impose martial law on the night of Dec. 3.

He was forced to rescind that decision within six hours after parliament rejected his move. Lawmakers later impeached him Dec. 14 and Yoon remains suspended from office pending a trial by the Constitutional Court.

The top court is set to hold its first hearing of the trial Friday when opposition lawmakers are set to vote to impeach acting President and Prime Minister Han Duck-soo.
