South Korea’s Marine Corps will take part for the first time in an annual multinational military exercise that will be held in Indonesia, local media reported Tuesday.

The Super Garuda Shield joint exercise, which will be jointly led by the US and Indonesia, will kick off on Saturday and run through Sept. 7 in the capital Jakarta and other parts of Indonesia, with around 5,000 personnel from 14 countries taking part, said Yonhap News Agency.

South Korea will send around 20 Marines.

The Super Garuda Shield exercise, launched in 2007 as a joint drill between the US and Indonesia to improve jungle warfare capabilities, has since expanded to include more countries.
