South Sudan, Ethiopia discuss bilateral relations

'South Sudan values its historic ties with Ethiopia, appreciates Ethiopia's keen interest in its peace and stability,' acting foreign minister says

JUBA, South Sudan (AA) - South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Monday discussed bilateral relations with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in the capital Juba.

Deng Dau Deng Malek, South Sudan's acting foreign minister, told the reporters after a meeting that the two leaders discussed bilateral matters with regional dimensions, including the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement in South Sudan.

“South Sudan values its historic ties with Ethiopia and appreciates Ethiopia's keen interest in its peace and stability," he said, noting that the meeting between the two leaders is very important as they discussed regional stability and encouraged the implementation of the peace agreement in South Sudan.

Ambassador Mesganu Arega, Ethiopian state minister of the Foreign Ministry, said they attach great importance to peace and stability in South Sudan.

“Ethiopia plays particular importance to peace and stability of South Sudan and stands committed to peaceful resolution of political issues.”

He also said the two leaders exchanged views on bilateral relations and matters of regional mutual interest.

Abiy and his delegation arrived in Juba for a one-day visit working visit, and the president welcomed them officially.
