S&P 500 closes above 5,500 record-high level for 1st time in history
Nasdaq gains 0.84% to end session also all-time high of 18,028

ISTANBUL (AA) - The S&P 500 closed Tuesday above the 5,500 record-high level for the first time in history.
The index climbed above that level on June 20 but failed to hold above it. On Tuesday, it added almost 34 points, or 0.62%, to finish the day at 5,509.
The Nasdaq increased 149 points, or 0.84%, to end the session also at an all-time high of 18,028.
The Dow Jones, meanwhile, rose 162 points, or 0.41%, to close at 39,331.
The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, fell 1.5% to 12.03. The 10-year US Treasury yield lost 1% to 4.434%.
The dollar index decreased 0.2% to 105.69, while the euro rose 0.07% to $1.0745 against the greenback.
Precious metals were mixed, with gold losing 0.1% to $2,329 per ounce but silver gaining 0.3% to $29.54.
Oil prices were down around 0.2%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $86.56 and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $83.15.
