Stampede kills 3 in southern India

NEW DELHI (AA) - At least three people died and a few others were injured in a stampede during a political event in southern Andhra Pradesh state, officials said on Sunday.

According to the police in the state's Guntur district, three women died during a public meeting organized by the opposition Telugu Desam Party.

An official from the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority told Anadolu Agency that those injured were shifted to the hospital for treatment.

This was the second such incident in the state in a week. On Wednesday, eight people died in a stampede that occurred during a rally also organized by Telugu Desam Party in the Nellore district.
