State-run TV station under attack in east Afghanistan

Gunbattle continues in attack on Radio Television Afghanistan in Jalalabad city

KABUL, Afghanistan (AA) - Armed militants stormed the regional station headquarters of state-run Radio Television Afghanistan in eastern Jalalabad city on Wednesday, injuring more than a dozen civilians, according to a government official.

Attaullah Khogyani, spokesman for the regional governor, told Anadolu Agency via telephone that fighters were currently engaged in a gunbattle with Afghan security forces.

The RTA office in Jalalabad is located in the heart of the city close to the headquarters of the provincial government and the main market.

According to initial reports, at least 17 civilians have been wounded in the incident, the spokesman said.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.

Jalalabad is the provincial capital of Nangarhar province, located east of the capital, Kabul.

Nangarhar has been marred by pro-Daesh insurgency with strongholds of the terror group's militants said to be in southern Achin, Kot and Bati Kot districts of the province near the border with Pakistan.
