ISTANBUL (AA) - A small aircraft crashed at a Los Angeles airport early Thursday after a suspect allegedly broke into the facility around 4 am (1200GMT) and stole a plane, according to Los Angeles Airport Police.
The Federal Aviation Administration said the single-engine Cessna C172 hit a hangar at about 5 am (1300GMT).
Authorities identified the suspect as 37-year-old Ceffeareno Logan, who was taken into custody on suspicion of burglary and aircraft theft.
The FBI’s Los Angeles field office confirmed to Fox News Digital that federal agents also responded to the incident.
"Logan … trespassed a private leasehold and onto Van Nuys general aviation airport gaining access to a Cessna aircraft, causing damage to adjacent infrastructure," LAX Police said. Van Nuys is a neighborhood of Los Angeles.
"LAXPD immediately responded and took subject into custody," the police added.
Images from the scene show the Cessna C172 appeared to have punched a large hole in the hangar. Law enforcement officials said the aircraft never got airborne, and TV station KTLA reported investigators believe it collided with the building while taxiing.
After it was removed from the crash site and moved inside a building, footage showed the plane with a damaged propeller.
Officials have not said whether they are looking for any additional suspects.
