Storms, snow hit northern Europe
Traffic accidents, cancelled flights, power cuts as bad weather strikes
THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AA) - Storms and heavy snowfall across northern Europe led to chaos and at least one death Monday, local media reported.
In Germany, bad weather conditions caused around 300 road accidents, in which one person died and dozens were injured.
Hundreds of flights were cancelled across the region, affecting travelers in the Netherlands, the U.K., France, Germany, Belgium and Sweden.
In the Netherlands, the meteorological service announced red alerts across the country as public transport ground to a halt and roads were shut.
Nearly 140,000 homes were without power in the U.K. after heavy snowfall hit England and Wales.
