Sudan, Egypt ink ‘strategic partnership’ deal

Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir signs deal with Egyptian counterpart during two-day Cairo visit

CAIRO (AA) - Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir wrapped up a two-day visit to Cairo on Thursday evening during which he met his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi.

During the visit, the two heads of state signed a "comprehensive strategic partnership agreement", while officials from both countries signed a host of cooperation agreements in the fields of industry, agriculture, higher education and public health.

While in Egypt, al-Bashir attended a ceremony marking the 43rd anniversary of Egypt’s 1973 military victory over Israel in the Sinai Peninsula.

At the Thursday ceremony, al-Sisi awarded al-Bashir with Egypt’s "Star of Sinai" medal "in recognition of his participation in the 1973 Arab-Israeli war", during which he served in a Sudanese army brigade.
