Sudan intelligence chief denies Mossad meeting

Media reports said Sudanese intelligence chief met his Israeli counterpart in Munich last month

KHARTOUM (AA) – Sudanese intelligence chief Salah Gosh has denied reports about meeting with his Israeli counterpart in Munich last month.

The Doha-based Al Jazeera television, citing British media reports, said Gosh had met with Mossad chief Yossi Cohen on the sidelines of the Munich security conference.

The report claimed that the Sudanese-Israeli meeting was organized by Egyptian mediators, with the support of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

It alleged that the meeting was meant to promote Gosh for presidency amid ongoing protests in Sudan against the regime of incumbent President Omar al-Bashir.

In a statement, the Sudanese intelligence service described the report as “bare of truth” and “lacks professionalism and objectivity”, going on to reiterate its commitment to the country’s "foreign policies".

“Sudan does not need to move secretly or follow a path that runs against its national principles or policies,” it said.

There was no comment from Egypt, Saudi Arabia or the UAE on the claim.

Sudan does not recognize Israel.

Sudan has been rocked by protests since mid-December, with demonstrators decrying the government’s apparent failure to remedy the country’s chronic economic woes.
