Iraqi authorities impose curfew in Fallujah following attacks

By Suleiman al-Qubeisi

ANBAR, Iraq (AA) – Two people were killed in two suicide bombings in Iraq’s western city of Fallujah, according to Iraqi officials.

A bomber blew up his vehicle at a military checkpoint in the west of the city, colonel Walid al-Duleimi of the Anbar Operations Command told Anadolu Agency on Sunday.

He said another car-bomb struck a police checkpoint in central Fallujah. “Two people, including a soldier, were killed and 11 others injured in the attacks,” he added.

Iraqi forces have imposed a curfew across the city following the bombings.

“The curfew will remain in place until a further notice,” al-Duleimi said.

Last month, two suicide attacks hit the Sunni-majority city, killing nine people and injuring dozens.

Iraq has suffered a devastating security vacuum since mid-2014, when Daesh terrorist organization captured the northern city of Mosul -- now the target of a wide-ranging army offensive -- and overran vast swathes of territory in the country’s north and west.

Since then, some 58,000 people countrywide have been killed in sporadic acts of violence, according to UN figures.
