BERLIN (AA) - A suspect linked to the slain alleged assailant of last week's deadly truck attack on a Christmas market in Berlin was detained in Berlin on Wednesday, according to the prosecutor's office.

Police investigated Tunisian attacker Anis Amri's mobile phone, where they found the number of a 40-year-old suspect and raided his office and house, the Federal Office of the Chief Prosecutor said in a written statement.

There are signs the suspect may be linked to the attack, the statement said, which did not give any specifics about how exactly the links were made.

According to the German press, the slain suspect Amri may have gone to Netherlands before arriving in Italy after the attack.

Amri was killed in Milan following an alleged clash with police.

Last week, a truck ploughed through a Christmas market near the historical Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in Berlin that killed at least 12 people and injured nearly 50 others.

While the Daesh terror group claimed responsibility for the attack, no concrete details have emerged about who was responsible.
