Suspected gas poisoning kills 7 in China

ANKARA (AA) – At least seven people were killed while one person was admitted to a hospital due to suspected gas poisoning in China, authorities said on Tuesday.

The incident happened at a food processing factory in Yibin City on Monday afternoon.

"The clinical manifestations of the dead reveal that they may have died of hydrogen sulfide poisoning," Chinese daily Global Times quoted a doctor who treated the patients as saying.

The factory was undergoing checking when the incident took place at around 3 p.m. local time (0700GMT).

A probe has been launched into the incident.

"The food factory is currently under lockdown. The police, medical staff and firefighters are all at the scene. It is not yet clear how long the lockdown will last," a staffer said.
