Syria launches Give Me Back My School campaign amid rebuilding efforts

DAMASCUS (AA)—The Give Me Back My School campaign was launched in the Syrian capital of Damascus, with the participation of international and local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) at the invitation of the Syrian Ministry of Education, to draw attention to the reconstruction of schools destroyed during the war.

The campaign's launch event was held at a hotel in Damascus, which was attended by Education Minister Mohammad Abdulrahman Tarko, representatives from international organizations, and dozens of local NGOs.

The director of School Buildings at the Ministry of Education, Mohammad Hannoun, told Anadolu that efforts are ongoing to restore schools heavily damaged by the war.

According to Hannoun, 448 schools have already been repaired, with work continuing on 330 more.

"There are 7,215 schools across the country that are still waiting to be restored. During this process, the Ministry of Finance has launched an investment plan," he said.

He pointed out that the Finance Ministry is coordinating the repair efforts, which could be accelerated with the combined support of local communities and international aid.

"Our goal is to offer our students a high-quality education. The newly renovated schools' designs will meet international standards," Hannoun added.
