Syrian embassy in Lebanon to resume consular services

BEIRUT (AA) - The Syrian Embassy in Lebanon announced on Thursday that it will resume consular operations from next week.

"The Embassy of the Syrian Arab Republic in Beirut announces the resumption of consular services starting next Tuesday,” the embassy said in a statement on Facebook.

It added that it will "soon announce the available consular services and associated fees."

Late last week, the Syrian mission in Beirut announced that consular operations would remain suspended "until further notice."

Bashar al-Assad, Syria's leader for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia after anti-regime groups took control of Damascus on Dec. 8, ending the Baath Party's regime, which had been in power since 1963.

The takeover came after Hayat Tahrir al-Sham fighters captured key cities in a lightning offensive that lasted less than two weeks.
