Bashar Jaafari asks for protection after being recalled to Damascus, TASS cites source as saying

ISTANBUL (AA) - Syrian Ambassador Bashar Jaafari has requested political asylum in Russia following his recall to Damascus, a source told Russia's state news agency TASS on Monday.
“The Syrian ambassador has requested asylum in the Russian Federation,” the source said, without providing further details.
There was no immediate comment from Syria or Russian authorities on the matter.
