Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa arrives in Saudi Arabia ahead of his expected meeting with Trump

Al-Sharaa to meet with Trump in Riyadh, who arrived in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday

ISTANBUL (AA) — Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa arrived in the Saudi capital of Riyadh on Tuesday evening, one day ahead of a meeting with US President Donald Trump, the Syrian presidency said in a statement.

Earlier, a White House official said Trump agreed to meet al-Sharaa during his visit to Saudi Arabia on Wednesday.

Trump said during the 2025 Saudi-US Investment Forum in Riyadh that he would order the removal of “brutal and crippling” US sanctions on Syria to give that country “a chance at greatness.”

The US president arrived in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, beginning a Gulf tour that will include visits to Qatar and the United Arab Emirates—his first major international trip since taking office.
