Syrian regime, opposition exchange prisoners

AL-BAB, Syria (AA) – Forces of the Syrian regime and the military opposition on Monday exchanged prisoners within the framework of the Astana Process.

Five detainees were released from each side at the Abu al-Zandin crossing in the northern part of Aleppo province, according to local sources.

The move came as part of a project established with the participation of Türkiye, Russia, Iran and the United Nations within the framework of the Astana Process.

The prisoner swap took place as a result of Türkiye’s steps within the framework of its humanitarian diplomatic activities, under the supervision of representatives of the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross and in accordance with international regulations.

The Syrian regime and opposition conducted a similar prisoner exchange on July 2, 2021, during which five detainees were released from each side.
