ISTANBUL (AA) - A 14-year-old boy was killed, and five others seriously injured in a knife attack in Villach, southern Austria on Saturday, BBC reported.
Police identified the suspect as a 23-year-old Syrian asylum seeker, who was detained at the scene in Villach, a town near the Italy and Slovenia border.
Two of the five injured victims remained in serious condition.
Police said a delivery worker helped prevent further injuries by driving his vehicle toward the attacker.
The driver, also a Syrian man, said he witnessed the attack while passing by and deliberately rammed the knifeman with his vehicle.
Due to Austrian law, the attacker's identity has not been disclosed, but police confirmed he is a 23-year-old Syrian man residing locally.
He held a temporary residence permit and was awaiting a decision on his asylum application.
