Terrorist attack in Turkey's east, one soldier martyred

VAN, Turkey (AA) – A terrorist attack in Turkey's eastern province of Van martyred one soldier and injured three other members of the security forces on Tuesday.

According to sources who cannot be named due to security concerns, PKK terrorists built a barricade and set two cars on fire in the Hacibekir neighborhood in the city of Van.

An operation against the terrorists was carried out by the police department, backed up by armored military vehicles.

Terrorists attacked the armored vehicles with rocket launchers and firearms, martyring one soldier and injuring another along with two police officers.

An operation backed by air support is continuing.

The Van attack comes hours after a Turkish soldier was martyred in the southeastern province of Diyarbakir in another PKK attack.

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization also by the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.
