ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (AA) - A Turkish development agency made a significant delivery of medical equipment to an Ethiopian university on Tuesday.
The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) donated the material to Mekele University in northern Ethiopia’s Tigray state.
“We are happy at the fact that many patients will benefit from the services of the medical equipment just donated to Mekele Hospital,” TIKA Addis Ababa coordinator Fatih Celik coordinator said at the handover ceremony.
He recalled the historic and cultural experiences the peoples of the two countries shared and said: “We will continue to cooperate both in humanitarian and development fields.”
“TIKA will carry on making similar donations in Ethiopia because the kind of medical materials just handed over are not readily available at health institutions,” he added.
Director of Mekele Hospital, Dr. Biyani Gebremedhin, expressed gratitude for what he described as a practical sense of cooperation.
Mekele Hospital provides services to nearly 210,000 patients every year.
