NUR-SULTAN, Kazakhstan (AA) - Kazakhstan's interim leader Kassym-Jomart Tokayev won the country's presidential election, the country’s election commission announced on Monday.
In Sunday's presidential election, Tokayev received 70.76% votes, according to Kazakhstan's Central Elections Commission.
Voter turnout was 77.4% of the 12 million registered voters, it said.
Tokayev, 66, had taken the reins as acting president a day after the resignation of Nazarbayev earlier in March and announced that the oil-rich Central Asian country will go to early presidential election on June 9.
