Tractors parade in Paris streets over prohibition of insecticide

ANKARA (AA) – Farmers' tractors parade in Paris streets over the prohibition of an insecticide, local media reported on Wednesday.

Beet-cultivating farmers denounce the ban on neonicotinoids, a form of insecticide used to protect the seeds, broadcaster BFMTV said.

Farmers criticize authorities for not offering a solution to replace those products.

The EU banned three years ago the use of those products that "kills the bees," BFMTV added.

The decision never entered into force in some countries including France, but a recent judgment of the Court of Justice of the European Union canceled those exemptions.

The tractors blocked some highways in the Parisian regions, and some of them swarmed into the city center, according to images shared on social media by the National Federation of Agricultural Holders' Unions.

Farmers also held a protest with banners in their hands at Invalides monument near the Eiffel Tower, according to the same source.
