Trail Blazers guard CJ McCollum sustains collapsed lung injury

30-year-old suffers lung injury during game against Boston Celtics on Dec. 4, his return to game uncertain

ANKARA (AA) - Portland Trail Blazers guard CJ McCollum has been diagnosed with collapsed lung injury, the NBA team said on Tuesday.

"Upon further examination, a CT scan revealed that Trail Blazers guard CJ McCollum has a pneumothorax (collapsed lung)," the team announced.

"McCollum sustained the injury during the 4th quarter of Portland's game versus Boston on December 4," the Trail Blazers said in a statement.

The Western Conference franchise added that the 30-year-old player's return to the game is now uncertain.

"He will be further evaluated before a prognosis is determined and his status will be updated accordingly."

McCollum suffered from a lung injury in the final quarter of the game against the Boston Celtics that the Blazers lost 145-117 at Moda Center, Portland on Saturday.

This season, he had 24 appearances for Portland to average 20.6 points, 4.5 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game.

McCollum, playing for the Blazers since 2013, won the 2016 NBA Most Improved Player award.
