Trump administration asks Justice Department to probe NY attorney general for mortgage fraud

Letitia James allegedly misrepresented personal details on loan applications

ANKARA - The Trump administration has accused New York Attorney General Letitia James of mortgage fraud, according to US media reports published Wednesday.

The Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) referred James to the Department of Justice on Tuesday for potential criminal prosecution, based on documents disclosed by Fox News Channel’s “The Ingraham Angle.”

In a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi, FHFA Director William Pulte alleged that James may have altered official records to meet mortgage requirements and secure more favorable loan terms, according to Fox News.

The claims include assertions that James listed a property in Virginia as her primary residence and misrepresented a New York property by stating it had four units instead of five. Such changes could have helped her qualify for better loan conditions.

Fox News quoted a spokesperson for James’ office as saying James has been “focused every single day on protecting New Yorkers, especially as this administration weaponizes the federal government against the rule of law and the Constitution. She will not be intimidated by bullies — no matter who they are.”
